We Take Care of Our Own
In recent years, Indiana—and Indiana hospitals—have been dramatically affected by flooding, tornadoes and other natural disasters. In July 2008, following a devastating flood that swamped cities in southern Indiana, IHA established the Indiana Hospital Employee Disaster Relief Fund to help hospital employees weather the financial strain of their hospitals’ temporary closure and the damage to their own homes.
The Origins of the Fund
The fund was seeded with a donation of $25,000 from Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. The fund is held by IHA’s Hahn Foundation, a 501(c)(3) entity.
Recent Fund Recipients
Thanks to the generous donations from members
such as yourself, we were able to help hospital employees endure the financial
strain of their facilities’ temporary closure and the damage to their own
homes. When tornadoes struck Indiana in 2012 and 2016, IHA was able to
distribute funds quickly to caregivers and other hospital employees whose
houses and personal property were damaged or lost. IHA also contributes to
efforts led by other hospital associations when major disasters occur, and we
supported relief campaigns this year for those impacted by Hurricanes Harvey,
Irma and Maria.
In Nov. 2016, tornadoes and severe storms caused damage to houses,
businesses, stadiums and other buildings in several Indiana counties. IHA was
able to assist affected employees through the fund, and we now need to
rebuild our reserves.
Please consider making a donation, either as an
individual or through your hospital or foundation, so that we are prepared
the next time help is needed.
Natural disasters are
inevitable. Together, we can help our hospital colleagues weather any storm.
