ISDH Trauma Tour
The Indiana Department of Health (IDH) hosted the 2015
Trauma Tour. ISDH Division of Trauma
and Injury Prevention staff, along with local stakeholders, held
"open house" style meetings in all 10 Indiana public health
preparedness districts for Hoosiers to learn more about trauma, how state and
local agencies currently respond to trauma and how a trauma system could help

Indiana Needs More Trauma Hospitals
Injury is the leading cause of death for Hoosiers between the ages of 1 and 34. More than 95,000 Hoosiers are hospitalized for injuries—and more than 5,000 die—each year. Because trauma care requires special training and equipment, only a limited number of hospitals are prepared to deliver life-saving care on a 24-hour basis.
Currently, there are just twelve American College of Surgeons-certified trauma hospitals in Indiana and four hospitals "in the process" of ACS certification.

Government Initiatives on Trauma Care
In 2008, Indiana established the Indiana State Trauma Care Committee. The committee advises the governor and the state health commissioner on implementing a more effective trauma care system across the state.
In September 2013, Indiana approved the trauma registry final rule.
