Recruit and Retain the Best Health Care Professionals
Indiana hospitals are often one of the largest employers in their respective counties, offering well-paying jobs to highly skilled professionals. In order to meet the increasing demands on hospitals to provide the highest quality care with fewer resources, hospitals must hire and retain a capable workforce. IHA has developed resources and tools to help members meet that goal.
Building a Future-Proof Workforce
Indiana hospitals employ more than 250,000 Hoosiers in communities across the state. While health care accounts for as many as 1 in 9 American jobs, Indiana hospitals face shortages in many professions.
The challenge is twofold—Indiana hospitals must both replace a large population of retiring Baby Boomers and expand their workforce to meet the needs of a growing and aging population.
IHA Workforce Priorities
IHA’s Council on Workforce Development has identified the following areas as the most pressing issues in recruitment and retention for Indiana hospitals:
- Increase the pipeline for nursing and other shortage professions
- Develop mid-level leaders to enhance retention
- Conduct proactive educational initiatives to enhance employee relations
