Indiana Hospital Association Recognizes Dr. Anthony Sanders for Outstanding Service in Health Care

INDIANAPOLIS – Anthony L. Sanders, MD, FACOG, was awarded the Douglas J. Leonard Indiana Caregiver of the Year Award at the Indiana Hospital Association (IHA) 2019 Annual Membership Meeting.

The Douglas J. Leonard Indiana Caregiver of the Year Award recognizes an individual in the health care industry whose performance in the delivery of care is considered exemplary by

patients and peers. Dr. Anthony Sanders of Community Health Network, Indianapolis, was recognized for his leadership in the development of the CHOICE program, which is designed to

connect mothers-to-be with a substance use disorder to treatment programs. The CHOICE program, Change, Hope, Overcome, Inspire, Compassion, Educate, is designed to make vital resources including medical care, medication-assisted therapy, and specialty consultation, more easily available to pregnant women struggling with addiction. The program has helped nearly 200 women in the Indianapolis area.

“Dr. Sanders’ leadership in reaching this at-risk population is incredibly important in reducing maternal and infant mortality, which are top public health concerns in Indiana,” said IHA

President Brian Tabor. “We know the earlier intervention occurs, the better the outcome for mother and baby. We are very pleased to publicly recognize Dr. Sanders’ innovative work with the CHOICE program,” Tabor added.

Dr. Sanders has been with Community Health Network, which is based in Indianapolis, for 10 years. He is an OB-GYN by training and serves on the Community Health Network Physicians Board.
