New Laws Take Effect July 1

A majority of the legislation that passed during the 2018 session will take effect July 1. The IHA Legislative Team successfully worked with key policymakers to enact laws that will streamline the prior authorization and credentialing processes, which will help ensure that providers are paid appropriately and in a timely manner. IHA was also successful in passing legislation granting acceptance of national accreditation in lieu of the annual state survey for purposes of hospital licensure. In addition, IHA worked with lawmakers, Gov. Holcomb’s administration, and other stakeholders to enact important measures to reduce infant mortality and combat opioid abuse.

Scheduled to go into effect July 1 are laws related to INSPECT, credentialing, the Physician Order of Scope and Treatment (POST) form and hierarchy of consent, perinatal levels of care, newborn screenings, continuing education requirements, and suspected human trafficking. For more details and a full listing of the effective dates of new laws, see last week's Legislative Update.
