Indiana Hospital Association Recognizes Morgan Jones for Outstanding Individual for Service in Health Care

INDIANAPOLIS –Morgan Jones, MA was awarded with the Douglas J. Leonard Indiana Caregiver of the Year Award at the Indiana Hospital Association (IHA) 2019 Annual Meeting.

The Douglas J. Leonard Indiana Caregiver of the Year Award recognizes an individual in the health care industry whose performance in the delivery of care is considered exemplary by patients and peers. Morgan Jones, who works as a behavioral health counselor at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis, was recognized for the amazing care that she provided to a patient with sickle cell and end stage renal disease.

The patient, after various life circumstances and a progressing chronic illness, was hospitalized for more than 250 days. Jones demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to ensuring the patient had the best possible quality of life. She hosted “dance parties” in the patient’s room, sat with her during dialysis procedures, and came in at all hours of the day or night to foster a happy environment and lift the spirits of all those who cared for the patient. Jones brought the care teams together to create a more cohesive working relationship to ensure the patient’s final days were comfortable.

“Morgan’s story is one of incredible dedication, commitment and love. She cared for this patient as if it were a member of her family. Morgan is truly an inspiration to caregivers everywhere,” said IHA President Brian Tabor.

Jones has been with St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital since 2015 as a behavioral health counselor. Prior to joining the St. Vincent team, Morgan earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology at Marian University in 2012 and then continued in training toward a Master’s in Clinical Psychology in 2015 at the University of Indianapolis.
