Gatmaitan Promotes Zero-tolerance for Medical Errors

In a recent article for Modern Healthcare, Al Gatmaitan discussed hospitals implementing a zero-tolerance rule for medical errors. He highlights that the biggest obstacle for avoiding medical errors that can lead to patient harm, is found in the health care workers themselves. He suggests to resolve the issue, hospitals re-engineer their processes and critical soft skills. The outcome is to make health care workers more self-organized, better able to work well in teams and consistently respond with the right moves in the chaotic world of patient care. Gatmaitan currently serves as the executive vice president and COO for Indiana University Health in Indianapolis.
