Purdue School of Nursing Receives Grant to Fund Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program

The Purdue School of Nursing has received a grant from North Central Health Services to use towards the creation and implementation of a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner program. Indiana is ranked 45th of the 50 states for access to mental health care. With this new program, the university is hoping to meet the needs of the community and alleviate the shortage of Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP) trained in Indiana. The four-year, $734,000 grant is set to begin in August and course development will take place in the fall of 2015, with the first students enrolling in summer 2018.
