IHA COVID-19 Statement Regarding Statewide Surge Planning

Hospitals across Indiana are collaborating and actively preparing to provide the necessary level of care to see Hoosiers through this public health emergency. In partnership with the State of Indiana, each hospital is identifying strategies to expand vital resources for the most affected by COVID-19 while shifting patients who need less intensive treatment to other settings. As noted in Governor Holcomb's briefing today, the number of critical care beds has already been increased significantly and continues to rise.

We are grateful to the Holcomb Administration, Dr. Jennifer Sullivan, Secretary of Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), Dr. Kris Box, Indiana State Health Commissioner, and their teams for their tireless leadership. The regulatory relief granted by state and federal governments is allowing our member hospitals to react with great speed to meet the challenges of this pandemic.

Today is National Doctors' Day, and we extend our thanks to the physicians, doctors, nurses, and other caregivers who are on the front lines taking care of patients. Their dedication during this challenge is inspiring. To support them, and to help stop the spread of COVID-19, we urge Hoosiers to follow public health guidance and stay at home to minimize the spread.
